Paul Roux is situated next to the N5 - the national road between Durban and Bloemfontein. It is a small town with several sandstone buildings and was founded in 1909 and initially named Duplessisville. It was later renamed after the Rev Paul Roux of the Dutch Reformed Church. For as long as they can remember, the Basotho called the town 'Fateng tse Ntsho', meaning the place of the black trees. Former State President PW Botha was born on the farm Telegraaf in the Paul Roux district.
