The capital of Maputo is an interesting city and worth visiting. Sight seeing here includes the museum, the gallery in the Ministry of Labour building and the market. Near Nampula in the north, lies Ilha de Moçambique -Mozambique Island (declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site). It is an interesting place, dotted with 17th- and 18th-century buildings and mosques, many of them from the colonial Portuguese period. Although the country is opening up to tourism, it does not yet have the developed infrastructure for self-drives and 4x4 vehicles are often required, therefore joining a tour is advisable.

There are three national parks in Mozambique: The Gorongosa National Park, the Maputo Elephant Park, on the bank of the Maputo River and the Marromeu National Park is at the mouth of the Zambezi River. The lovely, unspoilt beaches and dreamy resorts on the Bazaruto Archipelago in the balmy Indian Ocean have become world-famous as exquisite island getaways - consisting of four islands plus surrounding islets and reefs. This beautiful area features inviting sandy beaches and offers excellent opportunities for game fishing.
