The suburb of Lansdowne, part of the sprawling CapeFlats area, was named after the fifth Marquess of Lansdowne, a British Statesman.
History tells us that Lansdowne Road itself preceded the establishment of the suburb and was used to access the farmlands that once existed across the CapeFlats. Lansdowne was, in the early twentieth century, part of the Claremont ward and as the suburb grew developed into a suburb in its own right and is now home to a mix of residential and commercial zones.
