The heaviest flying bird in the world, the Kori Bustard, one of over 220 bird species, can be found in the area.

Established in 1979 and is approximately 14 500ha in extent and almost surrounds Graaff-Reinet. Besides birds, visitors may even catch a glimpse of the shy Cape Mountain Zebra, a once endangered species, now thriving in the Nature Reserve.
